Why I Do What I Do
I wanted to take a minute and share about this sewing thing that I do. I want to help those of you who don't know me personally understand a bit better who I am. Just in case you were wondering.
I love sewing and all parts of sewing. If you have ever tried to sew anything in your life, you know that sitting at the machine and stitching fabric together accounts for like 10% of the actual project. Well, I love all 100% of it. From picking out fabrics (which is probably one of my favorite parts), to measuring, cutting, pinning, and then finally stitching. It's all very therapeutic. I don't use many patterns, so there is a lot of my own creative mind behind each project. Sometimes, planning out what I am going to make is 75% of the work! But I so so enjoy it. It's one of those things that keeps me awake at night out of excitement for what I can sew the next day. So, I must keep sewing... and all parts of it.
I love sewing for others. The act of sewing (and all parts of it) is one thing. The finished product is other thing completely. It deserves its own category. Seeing and using that finished creation is like a high. It's an addiction. And seeing someone else using it is even better. I strive for everything I make to be extremely practical and functional. If I can't find a use for it in my everyday life, then I won't make it. If once I've made it, I believe it isn't up to par, I will remake it a hundred times until it's perfect. I enjoy giving away the things that I make so someone can enjoy it too. So why sell them? Why not just give them away? Well, I'm glad you asked...
I want to fund my hobby. Although what I make might not look like a lot of fabric or pieces, it usually is more than anyone would guess. And it gets expensive. There are other expenses that no one ever even sees, like the machine upkeep, tools and workspace things, etc. I try to keep the cost as low as possible. But to be able to continue to make for myself and the masses, I must sell.
I want to work. I used to work outside of the home before my little girl was born. But because of my husbands demanding job, it isn't possible for me to work outside the home right now. And I really enjoy working and this is a way for me to keep doing that. Most creative minds would probably hate the administrative end of it, but I love that part too! Making business cards, creating coupon codes, designing my different sites, and tracking inventory is all a big piece of the puzzle. I have worked in many administrative jobs and I like to do those sorts of tasks. So it fits in perfectly!
In the end, I'm just trying to keep doing what I enjoy and what I think I have somewhat of a knack for. Hopefully, if you purchase from me, now you'll know the whole story!
